For 5 - 7 Year Olds
Acting and Playwriting

Showcase: March 22, 2014
Our youngest group of actors will be exploring what they love about their schools, and all the ways that learning can be exciting! Students will learn introductory acting skills like projection, stage directions, and characterization as they work together to create a new play about why their schools are so important. Their final theatre piece will be presented at the School of Theatre Showcase on March 22, 2014.

For 8 - 11 Year Olds
Acting and Playwriting
"Being on Stage"
Cost: $50
Location: Matrix Theatre Company
Days/Times: January 18 - March 22, 2014
Classes: Saturdays, 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Showcase: March 22, 2014
Students in this class will be taking a look at their schools and finding creative ways to bring changes where they want it most! In addition to building their skills in improvisation, monologue work, and character analysis, students will create an original script based on what their hopes are for schools in the future. Their new play will be presented at the School of Theatre Showcase on March 22, 2014.
For 11 - 14 Year Olds
Acting and Playwrighting"Acting Is..."Cost: $100
Location: Matrix Theatre Company
Days/Times: January 21 - March 22, 2014
Classes: Tuesdays/Thursdays, 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Showcase: March 22, 2014
Middle school actors will come together to write a play about schooling around the world. In exploring how other cultures approach education, students will draw new ideas about learning that will form the basis of an original play. Along with strengthening writing and acting skills, this program will encourage and inspire young people to advocate for change in their own schools. Their new play will be presented at the School of Theatre Showcase on March 22, 2014.
For 14 - 18 Year Olds

Days/Times: January 13 - April 13, 2014
Classes: Mondays/Wednesdays, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Performances: Fridays - Sundays, April 4 - 13, 2014
The Matrix Teen Company members will be working to write an original play focusing on the state of education in Detroit. Through interviews with school staff members and field trips to different types of schools, as well as drawing from their own experiences, the latest Teen Company play will provide personal insight into the state of education today. This process will allow teens to work with Hollywood actor Justin Bartha (The Hangover, National Treasure,Failure to Launch) who will serve as a script consultant and guest director for the piece. Their play will open April 4 and run for two weekends.
